The White House has begun to be transformed into a temporary UFC arena after President Donald Trump confirmed the hosting of an unprecedented MMA event on the South Lawn of the official residence.

The fight is part of the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States and will also serve as a celebration of Trump’s 80th birthday, which will be celebrated on June 14.

The event, called “UFC Freedom 250”, is expected to welcome around 4,000 spectators in person, while nearby areas such as the Ellipse will have space for tens of thousands of people to watch the fights on giant screens.

UFC president Dana White stated that the idea came directly from Trump after a conversation between the two during a UFC event in 2025. According to White, the organization quickly began logistical negotiations with the White House to turn the plan into reality.

The initiative, however, has generated strong political reactions in the United States. Critics have used the opportunity to question the purpose of building a “ballroom” costing US$400 million when official events can be held outdoors, as in this case.

Despite the criticism, Trump has treated the event as a patriotic showcase. White insisted that UFC Freedom 250 “is not political,” but rather a national celebration linked to the 250th anniversary of the United States.

The UFC plans to turn the event into one of the biggest in the organization’s history. According to reports from the American press, the card is expected to include title fights and national broadcasts on CBS and Paramount+.
